What matters now?

When confronted with your own mortality, it tends to focus the mind somewhat.

Very quickly my priorities were established and my life has improved considerably as a result. All that matters now are:

PEOPLE – CREATIVITY – MUSIC – LOVE

Leukaemia has enhanced my experience of these four elements so dramatically that my life is now incomparably BETTER. This has been worth every drop of pain, many times over, and if I could go back… I would pick it again.

But make no mistake, as an unwanted physical guest leukaemia knocked on the wrong door, and I am kicking its arse.

Leukaemia - the unmentionable advantages

What? Isn't it terrible???

Well, doctors tend to sit BY YOU, when talking to you (bad sign).

When was the last time a doctor gently held your hand to say that your blood pressure was normal?

No, you get the super-doc treatment. You also get the concern of doctors, my collective term for a group of doctors who float in with concerned eyes - while the ones at the back are pushing & shoving "Let me see the freak!" - so quite high on the melodrama.

However, here for you guys are the advantages of going through Leukaemia - politically incorrect and you won't hear them elsewhere, but I am into the truth so...

1) Serious kudos & conversation winner/stopper.

There are worse diseases, but what a name, what a word! Dinner party:

"I am vice-president of anchor butter and might buy a BMW"

"I just got leukaemia at 33, and kicked its arse"

12-0 no extra-time. Anchor guy has to spend whole evening asking questions with concerned eyebrows.

2) Female attention.

I am not kidding - if you cannot get some serious female attention with leukaemia you are a complete idiot. They just flock - warning: do not pretend to have leukaemia, very very short-sighted chat-up line..

3) Self-confidence

You tend to look people in the eye and tell the truth without apology.

4) You get to catch up with old friends.

5) Your fashion options open up considerably - see pictures!

6) A ton of cards, gifts, messages of love & support from old & new friends every day. Wonderful

7) NHS - private ward. Yes mate, only way to convalesce.

I have milt-i-fied my ward which now houses:

  • Ensuite bathroom
  • View over london- including the london eye
  • Apple Laptop with Wireless Broadband
  • IPod + speakers + HUGE music library
  • Book, score & DVD Library
  • Mobile Phone
  • Digital Camera
  • Video Camera
  • Electric Guitar
  • POD
  • Multitrack recording studio
  • Halogen lighting(why accept florascence)
  • Fridge in the room
  • Fan

So as you can see things arent so bad - I really believe in making the most of any situation - and thats what I'm doing here. I am unswervingly positive here, but I couldnt be without all of this love & concern from angels like you.

So go forth and follow your bliss!!!!
